Uranium and gold: What are the best ASX shares to buy for these minerals?

There are two massive concerns for investors and the world in general this year: energy and recession.

While energy prices rocketed last year after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, that supply-demand imbalance is expected to continue in 2023.

“We think the outlook for energy stocks is attractive because there’s just not a lot of supply coming in,” Schroders portfolio manager Ray David told The Motley Fool earlier this year.

“No one really wants to invest in fossil fuels or LNG or gas without the high prices to justify the returns, because everyone’s quite worried about renewables and the ESG factors.”As for a recession, this will be a reality in some parts of the world, even if Australia does not quite hit the definition.Regardless, consumers and businesses will be suffering alike after ten months of steep interest rate rises. ‘We would be buying into dips’ Gold is a commodity often spruiked as a […]

Companies Like Fission Uranium (TSE:FCU) Are In A Position To Invest In Growth

Source: Shutterstock There’s no doubt that money can be made by owning shares of unprofitable businesses. For example, although Amazon.com made losses for many years after listing, if you had bought and held the shares since 1999, you would have made a fortune. But the harsh reality is that very many loss making companies burn through all their cash and go bankrupt.

Given this risk, we thought we’d take a look at whether Fission Uranium ( TSE:FCU ) shareholders should be worried about its cash burn. In this article, we define cash burn as its annual (negative) free cash flow, which is the amount of money a company spends each year to fund its growth. We’ll start by comparing its cash burn with its cash reserves in order to calculate its cash runway.

Uranium Week: Liquidity Wanes

Current uncertainty around geopolitical and jurisdictional risks is leading to a drying up of uranium spot market interest.

-Ongoing uncertainty as war continues
-Thin trading in U3O8 spot market
-Ongoing global push to extend nuclear capacity

The spot uranium market continued to show signs of limited liquidity last week, industry consultant TradeTech reports. Financial entities remain the primary buyer for delivery of spot uranium as utilities, traders, and others continue to look toward the mid- and longer-term markets for their purchases. This appears counterintuitive since the current spot price sits below mid- and long-term uranium prices. However, not only is demand thin in the spot delivery window, but availability of material within the spot period of 90 days is thin as well.Given the current uncertainty around geopolitical and jurisdictional risks that seems to increase as the war rages on, utilities, producers, and even traders will have taken action to cover […]

Don’t let the uranium price fool you, positive sentiment is here to stay

Market analysts believe the medium to long term outlook for uranium is promising

Here are 12 sub-$20m market cap stocks to take a closer look at Despite the challenging and uncertain macroeconomic environment, market analysts believe the medium to long term outlook for uranium is promising. Positive sentiment seems to have shifted from an energy policy and geopolitical risk perspective, yet uranium prices have not touched the US$60/lb mark since April last year, which is what a lot of aspiring developers use to justify the profitability of their future operations. While many might be wondering why the price has not budged, Per Jander, WMC Energy technical advisor to Sprott Physical Uranium Trust reminds investors to keep watch as it takes time. “It’s not a big catch-up effect where everything hits the market at […]

Uranium in the winner’s circle after a brutal February for commodities

Investors were keen on commodities continuing to perform well in February 2023 after a strong January 2023. In the first month of the year, we saw commodities rally hard mainly on the ‘China emerging from Covid and returning to normal/strong levels of economic growth’ trade. Some would also say the ‘Fed pivot’ trade had a part to play… and they wouldn’t be wrong given recent price action and the stronger US dollar move in the latter end of February 2023.

Iron ore, coal, lithium, rare earths, gold, silver, nickel, zinc among others fell in February. But prices still remain high from a historical perspective.

Here is some of the data :

Uranium Week: Near Term Weakness?

This story features PALADIN ENERGY LIMITED. For more info SHARE ANALYSIS: PDN

Despite a positive longer term view, Longview Economics sees a nearer term demand/supply balance leading to uranium price weakness.

-Falling demand for uranium meets growing supply?
-More sanctions imposed on Russia
-Spot market quiet Looking ahead, the cyclical outlook for uranium is deteriorating, Longview Economics believes. In particular, demand has recently been boosted by Japan restarting various reactors, but those plants are all expected to be online within the next several months, resulting in a marginal slowdown in demand growth. More importantly, electricity generation tends to fall during recessions.Given Longview’s expectations for a recession in the US and Europe within the next 6-12 months, the demand outlook for uranium prices is considered relatively poor at this juncture. Likewise, a supply response is coming. In particular, Cameco is reopening its McArthur River uranium mine (the world’s largest) and it […]
