Sprott Physical Uranium Trust: War Makes Uranium Trade Too Risky For Now

Sprott Physical Uranium Trust: War Makes Uranium Trade Too Risky For Now

Several days ago, I published an article entitled Go Long the Nuclear Revival which concluded by recommending investing in uranium through the Sprott Physical Uranium Trust ( OTCPK:SRUUF ). While the reasoning and arguments made in the piece still stand and I believe will be valid over the longer-term, the immediate risks posed to the sector by the ongoing war in Ukraine make investing in uranium too risky in the short-term. For that reason, I have liquidated my holdings in the trust and plan to avoid the sector until the situation in Ukraine stabilizes and fighting has stopped. Geopolitical Risk

It’s often advisable to ignore the noise and low-level everyday political rumblings when investing. Better to focus instead on company fundamentals and industry trends. Some events however, such as major geopolitical shifts like the one going on in Europe need to be incorporated into […]

Future of U3O8 Industry at Mercy of World Events

The opening day of a recent three-day mining industry event ahead of the 2022 PDAC (Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada) meeting featured keynote speeches and company presentations.

In one headliner talk, Anna Bryndza, executive vice president of UxC — which is a firm that publishes data, research, and analysis on the global nuclear fuel cycle markets — discussed a handful of events happening in the world that will affect nuclear power and uranium in the near and longer-term future.

The one certainty, Bryndza said, is that investments in green energy will continue to boost demand for nuclear energy. As an example, she cited the European Union possibly mandating €50 billion in industry funding by 2030.

Less clear are the impacts of events related to current conflicts in Eastern Europe and Asia, Bryndza said. Russia’s attacks on Ukraine could affect the quantity, diversification, and security of Russia’s uranium supply, which is significant […]

Ken Wheatley, Forum’s Vice President, Exploration, stated, "The northeastern area of the Athabasca Basin is the home to numerous uranium deposits. Since the original discovery of the Rabbit Lake mine in 1968, the McClean, Sue, Collins Bay and Eagle Point deposits have been mined, and the Midwest, Midwest A and Roughrider deposits are waiting for future development. The presence of two uranium processing mills within driving distance of the project adds immensely to the value of the project."

Mr. Wheatley continued, "Historic drilling tested the conductive units to a shallow depth, and in areas where there were radioactive boulders noted at surface. The ground gravity survey recently completed by MWH Geo-surveys International has developed a series of drill targets that were never before identified, being located […]

Russian Nukes, Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plants, and Australian Uranium

Russian Nukes, Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plants, and Australian Uranium

While the world frets over nuclear war, and the stability of Ukraine’s nuclear reactors during the Russian invasion, a profound shift has taken place in Europe’s nuclear power policy. Almost as profound as what happened in South Korea, in fact.

After campaigning most ardently indeed against nuclear power for many years, South Korea’s President Moon recently said that South Korea should use nuclear power as its primary source for the next 60 years!

Interestingly, it’s news that I can’t find on any mainstream Western media source…

Now, I know Australians hate nuclear power even more than Putin. But the Europeans seem to be facing an actual choice between the two.You see, their attempt to go green without nuclear power has landed them dependent on Russian gas instead of just the weather.Initially, the result was just the recent inclusion of gas and nuclear power in the EU taxonomy on sustainable activities — basically […]

Closing Bell: One ASX uranium stock stood out in a sea of red, as small caps took a dive

share

For now, all roads for ASX shares still lead back to the Russia-Ukraine war.

And today investors hit the risk-off button as the conflict still looks to be well and truly in the escalation phase.

The five-day winning streak for ASX microcaps came to an end, as the Emerging Companies index fell by 2.56%.Local stocks got a serious fright shortly before midday, as reports emerged that a nuclear plant in Ukraine was on fire.Global stocks took the reports seriously, as evidenced by a quick move into safe haven assets such as the US dollar and another surge in oil prices.Equities sold off, but had recouped some of their losses by the close of trade. The big loser on the day was the ASX uranium sector (except for one stock — more on that later). Most uranium small caps also climbed off their intra-day lows, but still finished deep in the red.Looking ahead, […]

ASX uranium stocks have reacted to another risk event stemming from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, amid unconfirmed reports a nuclear power plant is on fire after Russian shelling.

The plant is situated in Zaporizhzhia, a city in south-eastern Ukraine, and is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.

Reports emerged this morning (Australian time) that the local mayor said firefighters were unable to put out a blaze at the plant because Russian forces kept firing at it.The commentary was distributed via the NEXTA Channel, a news outlet headquartered in Belarus. The market selloff then appeared to accelerate following this tweet from Ukraine foreign affairs minister Dmytro Kuleba. Narrative for new top-tier uranium projects becoming more positive – Denison

Narrative for new top-tier uranium projects becoming more positive – Denison

Canadian project developer Denison Mines is witnessing positive demand signals for uranium and believes that the narrative for top-tier new uranium mining projects has become “quite positive”, president and CEO David Cates said on Thursday.

“We have seen nuclear utilities seek to address significant future uncovered requirements in an environment with reduced visibility to available sources of supply – leading to increased long-term contracting activity and prices,” he said, adding that there was a “growing chorus of support” for the role that nuclear would play in the clean energy transition.

Denison is advancing the Wheeler River project, with an aim of moving the Phoenix deposit towards a development decision. Now, several years into the long-term plan for Wheeler River, the project “is uniquely aligned to emerge as the first in-situ recovery mine in the Athabasca basin region”.

The developer has continued its de-risking efforts at Phoenix, which involved extensive field and laboratory […]

Vancouver – Forum Energy Metals Corp. (TSX.V: FMC; OTCQB: FDCFF) (‘Forum’ or ‘the Company’) is pleased to announce that it has commenced drilling at the Highrock Uranium Project.

Forum is the Operator of the drill program under option to and funded by Sassy Resources Corporation.
