Baselode Energy seeing ‘unique situation’ at ACKIO uranium prospect in Saskatchewan

Baselode Energy Corp – Baselode Energy seeing ‘unique situation’ at ACKIO uranium prospect in Saskatchewan Baselode Energy Corp (TSX-V:FIND, OTCQB:BSENF) recently reported that drilling at the ACKIO uranium prospect at its Hook project in Saskatchewan has confirmed Pod 7 as a second zone of near-surface uranium mineralization at the prospect.

The company’s CEO James Sykes joined Proactive’s Steve Darling to talk through the drill results.

Proactive : Tell me about the exploration program and what you saw?

Sykes : This part of the program extended Pod 7’s mineralization to the overburden contact. That’s basically as shallow as we can get in a hardrock environment. We had 0.7% uranium oxide concentrate (U3O8) over 2 metres right at that immediate contact which now makes Pod 7 the second uranium-bearing zone or pod with mineralization at that overburden contact. Now for those who don’t understand, the overburden contact is as shallow as we […]

Uranium goes nuclear while lithium’s diving. What’s to stop the boom & bust?

Vertical Events’ Jaxon Crabb, Bannerman Energy’s Brandon Munro, Iggy Tan from Lithium Universe and Altech Batteries and Dr Cameron Perks from Benchmark Mineral Intelligence Uranium prices have been on the rise as a physical commodity. At US$80 a pound, it’s now up nearly 60 per cent year-on-year.

On the other hand, lithium has turned down by 77 per cent year-on-year.

Of course, it’s not the first time Uranium’s been this high.

It was sitting at US$135 a pound before the bubble burst mid-2007, and, was rising again in the lead up to the Fukushima earthquake disaster. So, with the price on the rise again – what’s to say it won’t fall off the cliff again if there’s another high profile incident? Why uranium prices are soaring

Premium Ready-to-ship canisters filled with enriched uranium at the Urenco USA uranium enrichment facility near Eunice. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is forcing the US and Europe to search for alternative sources of enriched uranium to power their reactors. (Photo: Bloomberg) When Russia invaded Ukraine, panic gripped Europe’s nuclear experts—the civilian variety, that is. Ukraine, where 15 reactors relied on Russia for their uranium, rushed to sign an unusually long 12-year deal with Canada. European utilities, also reliant on Russia, drew the maximum they could under other contracts. Most exposed were operators in Finland and eastern Europe that owned Russian-made reactors, which only Russian firms knew how to feed. Finding an American rival that could bundle uranium rods into the hexagonal blocks such plants demand took a year. Now they are searching for the metal needed to restart the atomic Tetris.

Such last-minute procurement of uranium is very rare, notes Per […]

This ASX uranium share picked as a future top 10 global contender

The silhouettes of ten people holding hands with their arms raised against the sky, as the sun rises or sets in the background. The ASX uranium share Nexgen Energy (ASX: NXG) could have a very exciting future, according to a fund manager.

Investment managers were asked to pick out their favourite investment ideas for the year ahead at the annual Sohn Hearts & Minds conference in Sydney recently.

Fund manager Jeremy Bond at Terra Capital told the conference that Nextgen Energy could become "one of the world’s top 10 mining stocks", according to the Australian Financial Review . What is Nexgen aiming to do?

Nexgen describes itself as a British Columbia corporation focused on developing into production the 100%-owned Rook I Project, located in Saskatchewan. The company says it has a highly experienced team of uranium industry professionals with a successful track record in discovering uranium deposits and developing projects from […]

The fund manager reckons uranium could surpass its 2007 highs of US$149/lb in an emerging bull marketDespite its dominance in the Australian investing landscape, fund managers presenting at the Sohn Hearts and Minds Investment Conference rarely pick resources stocks.Since its establishment in 2018, Hearts and Minds has invested around $700m and donated almost $44m to medical research, and introduced punters to ideas from some of Australia’s top fundies.35% of the portfolio is made up of stocks selected by presenters at the SHM Investment Leaders Conference at the Sydney Opera House, held last Friday.Last year’s sole mining selection — high grade Canadian iron ore miner Champion […]

Uranium price surge: Factors and investment opportunities

Webinar Notice Uranium prices have experienced a significant uptick, crossing the $80 per pound threshold, a level not observed in over 15 years. This surge in uranium prices can be attributed to a combination of factors, including a renewed interest in nuclear power and various supply disruptions in the global uranium market.

Nymex futures, which track physical-market contracts for yellowcake, reached $80.25 per pound on a Monday, reflecting a remarkable price increase. Colin Hamilton, Managing Director for Commodities Research at BMO, provided insight into the situation, stating that "Utility contracting continues to pick up," and he noted the limited availability of uncommitted production to meet utility requirements.

Cameco, one of the largest uranium producers in the world, reported on September 4th that challenges at its Cigar Lake mine, Key Lake mill, and McArthur River mine would adversely affect its production forecast. As a result, the company anticipates a 9% reduction in […]

Uranium heads towards $100/lb but markets cautious of ‘ludicrous’ spikes

During 2023, uranium futures have shown an impressive run higher, and are now up by approximately 65% YTD. Earlier this week, the yellow cake contracts continued their surge, topping the $80 (£63.7) per pound mark for the first time since January 2008. Source: TradingEconomics.com In contrast, WTI crude, natural gas, and coal are lower by 5.6%, 26.1%, and 46.1%, respectively.

Over the previous decade, prices have been depressed in the international markets following the tragedy at Fukushima, resulting in considerable oversupply. Rising demand

However, the new-found demand has been sustained by the global shift towards low-carbon growth, which has meant a bias towards reducing fossil fuel use, as well as robust utility contracting by energy grids.

Moreover, the intermittent supply issues from solar installations and wind energy; as well as the considerable disruption to traditional energy flows seen amid the Ukraine war, have led to higher demand for independent backups […]

Jeremy Bond thinks this uranium deposit is a ‘geological freak’ poised for a nuclear bull market

Jeremy Bond could scarcely be more bullish on NextGen Energy. Picture: Getty Images When a resources stock gets the nod at philanthropic investment company Hearts and Minds Investment’s annual conference, it’s probably worth taking notice.

Uranium-based NextGen Energy – with its “geological freak” Rook 1 discovery – was the only such stock to be nominated at the Sohn Hearts and Minds conference in Sydney late last week.

Despite its dominance in the Australian investing landscape, the resources sector is rarely the subject of fund managers presenting at conference. First, a little background

Forsys Metals’ pipeline of catalysts to excite the market

Forsys Metals Corp. is focused on uranium exploration and development in Namibia, southwest Africa, via its wholly owned Norasa project. This comprises of the Valencia and Namibplaas deposits, located in the country’s Erongo region.

The company can point to 250 years of combined mining and capital markets experience. Headed up by chief executive, Mark Frewin, it is currently updating its Mark Frewin, CEO and Director, Forsys Metals 2015 Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS). Even back then, the study pointed to strong financials that would place Norasa squarely in the world’s top ten uranium mines by size.

Once completed, it is anticipated the re-evaluation will reinforce the argument that Norasa’s economics are unparalleled for any comparable project in the world offering up a new primary source of uranium production.

Forsys Metals is the type of company that only makes a noise when there’s something worth shouting about. Like so many in the uranium space […]

Evening Wrap: ASX 200 higher as lithium, uranium stocks soar

Sometimes things which happen in the markets make perfect sense, for example, the surge in uranium stocks following another big move up in the spot uranium price. Other times, they don’t make any sense at all, for example the rally in lithium stocks today as lithium minerals prices in tumbled in Asia.

On that note, let’s dive in! Markets

As nuclear energy surges back into the limelight , promising a smoother transition away from fossil fuels, long-stagnant uranium markets have been booming. The once-obscure commodity is increasingly gaining the attention of investors looking for a new way to trade the clean energy transition. Uranium prices have soared this year, outperforming other metals. Can you talk about why this is happening now and where you see uranium prices headed going forward?

There are a couple of things that are at play here. Year-to-date through the last couple of days or so, [physical uranium] is up about 55%. Uranium tends to be much less sensitive to shorter-term economic noise. So when we see slow-down discussions about what’s going […]
