Some Confidence Is Lacking In Uranium Royalty Corp.’s (TSE:URC) P/S

Share Source: Shutterstock Uranium Royalty Corp.’s ( TSE:URC ) price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 8.5x may look like a poor investment opportunity when you consider close to half the companies in the Oil and Gas industry in Canada have P/S ratios below 2x. Uranium supply approaches a tipping point

Uranium has gone through a bout of volatility over the past few months, notably selling off from the decade highs it had hit earlier this year on bullish supply and demand narratives. Supply disruptions and slower-than-expected production resumptions played a large role in the initial rally. As such, with Kazatomprom (‘KAP’) announcing a surprise production upgrade in 2024 and reducing near-term projected deficits, spot uranium markets promptly experienced a correction. However, this price consolidation may not be a reflection of shifting sentiment, but rather a healthy breather amid constantly improving market fundamentals. Key takeaways

Uranium markets have historically relied on secondary supply stockpiled from the Cold War era of excessive uranium production.

Utility firms have shown decade high commitment to long-term contracts, indicating increasing demand and concerns about supply shortage.

Kazakhstan’s surprise mineral extraction tax change is an overall positive development which could delay uranium asset development and incentivise […]

Evening Wrap: ASX 200 rises on strong energy, banks and tech. Uranium stocks surge begs the question: Is the low in?

Retraction and apology

In the latest Market Index weekend newsletter, we mistakenly referred to Golden Deeps’ (ASX: GED) announcement of drilling results from its Havilah Project in NSW as “one of the dodgiest announcements I’ve seen in a while.”

This was based on a mistaken conclusion being drawn from the announcement headline, which referenced an 80m mineralised zone, and contrasted this with an excerpt from the third bullet point in the announcement which stated that the (80m) mineralised intersection “included a 28m zone (from 85.8m) of more intense sulphide mineralisation”. This was clarified later in the announcement on page 3 which described that the more intense sulphide mineralisation occurs within a zone of “disseminated chalcopyrite-sphalerite-pyrite mineralisation which occurs from 85m to 166m (over 80m)”.

Reference is also made to the pXRF results being “notoriously inaccurate (hence the cautionary note)”. We acknowledge that the disclosure of XRF results in the announcement is […]

Uranium: Everything Points To A Strong High Season Decoupled From The Stock Market And Recession Fears

Summary

Kazakhstan’s 17% uranium production cut for 2025, combined with rising demand, suggests a higher uranium spot price and potential gains in uranium ETFs or stocks.

The uranium market shifted from oversupply (2011-2017) to structural deficit since 2018, depleting inventories and setting the spot price market up for price gains.

Uranium demand is perfectly inelastic; reactor operations require specific uranium amounts, making price fluctuations less impactful on demand. Uranium’s cost impact on electricity is minimal compared to gas, enabling substantial price movements without significantly affecting electricity prices. Ole_CNX Thesis Just before the uranium market enters its high season, Kazakhstan, which accounts for approximately 45% of the world’s production, announced a 17% production cut for 2025. This announcement provides a strong reason to explore the market further and see if there is more to uncover as we approach the high season. Due to a combination of factors, this high season […]

Petra Capital forecasts sustained strength in uranium market

Uranium Petra Capital report A new report from boutique Australian institutional stockbroking firm Petra Capital is forecasting continued strength in the uranium market.

The estimated uranium term price for August is up 19% year-to-date, with the final third of the year – typically a strong seasonal period for uranium – still to come.

Petra believes an increase in contract volumes through to year-end will help drive material price increases—initially in the term price, with the spot price to follow. Kazatomprom impact

Petra’s report highlighted the impact of Kazatomprom’s recent production forecast issues on the short interest in uranium stocks.“Given the disconnect in equity prices, continued high short interest levels and the demonstrated inability of incumbents to rapidly increase supply, we see an excellent risk/reward to an investment in uranium equities,” the report noted. The firm also pointed to anticipated US interest rate cuts and a potential increase in contract volumes as having […]
