WA Liberals promise to lift uranium ban, but remain wary of nuclear

A West Australian Liberal government would overturn a ban on uranium to create thousands of new jobs and diversify the local economy, but party leader Libby Mettam has insisted the state is not ready for nuclear power.

Ms Mettam said overturning the ban, which was implemented in 2017 by the McGowan Labor government, would allow the state to capitalise on surging uranium prices and help WA become a hub for nuclear technology.
